Performance of JS Bach's St Matthew Passion

Please see the below message from Mike Emmerich, Chair of Manchester Baroque, about their performance of JS Bach's St Matthew Passion in collaboration with the Choir of Manchester Cathedral.

I am writing again on behalf of Manchester Baroque – a music group I organise. We are a registered charity established to play baroque music for the people of the North West.

The highlight of our year is the performance we give in the run up to Easter. Last year’s concert was an astonishing success. With 700 people in the Cathedral we had to hire more seats!  This year, on Good Friday, we perform the St. Matthew Passion by J.S. Bach. One of the very greatest pieces of music ever written, we will be performing it for the day it was written in the church calendar. It is almost operatic in its musical splendour yet deeply rooted in the story of the Passion: profound and moving. We will be joined in this concert by the Choir of Manchester Cathedral.

I hope that you might help us by letting your parishioners know about the concert via social media and in your parish newsletter.

On the afternoon of Good Friday, March 29th, Manchester-based Charity Manchester Baroque will be playing at Manchester Cathedral to perform Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with Manchester Cathedral Choir, one of the most moving pieces of music ever written, performed for the occasion in the Church calendar for which it was originally written. Tickets start at £10 plus booking fees. Details at: https://bit.ly/3T6M9Kh

We are very committed to bringing this glorious music to people who can’t usually afford come to see and hear it. So in addition to keeping our prices as low as we can, we offer a great concessionary price and we also offer free tickets to those who really can’t afford it.

Please do let us know if you would like to attend the concert, but your financial situation doesn't allow this and we can pass your name onto Mike.
