Ministry & Worship
Ministry, worship and faith are at the heart of our church life. There are a wide range of services at St Matthew's Church, so we hope there is something that resonates with you. Our Sunday Choral Eucharist begins at 9 am and we have family-friendly All Age Worship at 6 pm on Thursday evenings. The congregation at St Matthew is a friendly, generous, supportive and welcoming group of people of all ages.
All we do at St Matthew's is led by our Ministry Team. Our Reader, Ann Tattersall, plays an active role in all of our services by teaching, preaching, and leading worship. Ann also runs our weekly Luncheon Club and Drop In events. Margaret Hughes is our Authorised Lay Minister (ALM) with the remit of worship and liturgy. Margaret often leads our Thursday evening service and maintains close links with our church primary schools to develop and improve the worship provision for all our young people. Ann Emmott and Lorraine Moore are our Pastoral ALMs forming part of our Pastoral Team. They work with parishioners with concerns in times of struggle, but also to share in times of happiness and celebration.
It wouldn't be possible to run the parish without our diligent Warden Team, led by our Churchwardens: Helen Crabtree and Margaret Hughes. Helen and Margaret are first and foremost officers of the Bishop and they, along with the Incumbment, are responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the parish. The property of the church, in the plate, building, ornaments, and all other assets are vested in them. Helen and Margaret are ably assisted by a team of Deputy Wardens and Team Leaders who each have a specific remit in the parish, such as pastoral work or grounds maintanence.
